I am directed to inform you that the
Governor has leamed with deep regret of the death of a Japanese on board the Japanese Merchant Ship "Shikoku Maru" due to a shot from one of the batteries which is charged
with the enforcement of the rules for the examination of vessels wishing to enter the Harbour at the present time. These rules the Master of the Teasel unfortunately totally
disregarded.
An inquest will be held on the 17th instant
